When I was new into jewelry making, I wasn’t sure that I
would be able to handle buttons to actually make jeweler. But honestly, vintage
buttons can make amazing pieces of jewelry and look just great on kids as well
as young females alike.
Do you know that they were a part of jewelry from Bronze Age?
It is amazing to know that they were used as a source of decoration and
embellishment at that time. They were first made by using bones, horn, seashells,
and even wood. But now as time has changed, sophisticated materials have been
created for making vintage buttons.
The contemporary pieces of jewelry made with buttons bring a
unique beauty and artistry. There are
many unique ways with which you can incorporate buttons in jewelry. And the
best part is that buttons are available in a number of materials and they are
enough to make the pieces of jewelry more classic and extensive.
Steps to make button bracelet:
If you want to make stretchy themed button bracelet, here
are some simple tips that you can follow. It was the way I made my very first bracelet
using vintage buttons:
·
You first of all have to choose the type of
buttons you are going to use. They can be any themed or vintage buttons that
you wish to wear.
·
Take the buttons and make a spiral design. You
will need lots of buttons for this purpose so make sure that you have enough
that are similar in size and similar in design. If you want to add little
uniqueness, what you can do is to add spacer or beads in between in order to
separate the buttons.
·
It’s better if you start with a pattern. You can
use the internet to find various designs and styles in making bracelets. You
can even draw the pattern on a piece of paper.
·
You will need a piece of stretchy cord for this
purpose. Make sure that it is 6 inches long or according to the size of your
wrist. Make it a little longer because
you can always do adjustments later. On one end, place a paper clip so that the
vintage buttons do not come out from another end.
·
Now start adding buttons in the cord. They can
be multicolor buttons or you can choose a single color. If you don’t like the
style, you can always change the buttons.
·
Once you have filled the line, combine both ends
of the cord and tie a knot. You can even use clasp or other hooks that are
meant to join the ends of the bracelet together.
Instead of this stretchy cord, you can use fish wire and
other types of cords available in order to make jewelry pieces from buttons.
I have even learned to make lots of rings from buttons. They
are easy to stick on the surface of the ring and you can further accessorize
the ring with small stones to make the holes of the buttons disappear. I have been using vintage buttons to make
lots of jewelry pieces and so can you.
