How To Make Bracelet With Vintage Buttons?

When I was new into jewelry making, I wasn’t sure that I would be able to handle buttons to actually make jeweler. But honestly, vintage buttons can make amazing pieces of jewelry and look just great on kids as well as young females alike.

Do you know that they were a part of jewelry from Bronze Age? It is amazing to know that they were used as a source of decoration and embellishment at that time. They were first made by using bones, horn, seashells, and even wood. But now as time has changed, sophisticated materials have been created for making vintage buttons

The contemporary pieces of jewelry made with buttons bring a unique beauty and artistry.  There are many unique ways with which you can incorporate buttons in jewelry. And the best part is that buttons are available in a number of materials and they are enough to make the pieces of jewelry more classic and extensive.

Steps to make button bracelet:

If you want to make stretchy themed button bracelet, here are some simple tips that you can follow. It was the way I made my very first bracelet using vintage buttons:

·         You first of all have to choose the type of buttons you are going to use. They can be any themed or vintage buttons that you wish to wear.
·         Take the buttons and make a spiral design. You will need lots of buttons for this purpose so make sure that you have enough that are similar in size and similar in design. If you want to add little uniqueness, what you can do is to add spacer or beads in between in order to separate the buttons.
·         It’s better if you start with a pattern. You can use the internet to find various designs and styles in making bracelets. You can even draw the pattern on a piece of paper.
·         You will need a piece of stretchy cord for this purpose. Make sure that it is 6 inches long or according to the size of your wrist. Make it a little longer because you can always do adjustments later. On one end, place a paper clip so that the vintage buttons do not come out from another end.
·         Now start adding buttons in the cord. They can be multicolor buttons or you can choose a single color. If you don’t like the style, you can always change the buttons.
·         Once you have filled the line, combine both ends of the cord and tie a knot. You can even use clasp or other hooks that are meant to join the ends of the bracelet together.
Instead of this stretchy cord, you can use fish wire and other types of cords available in order to make jewelry pieces from buttons.

I have even learned to make lots of rings from buttons. They are easy to stick on the surface of the ring and you can further accessorize the ring with small stones to make the holes of the buttons disappear.  I have been using vintage buttons to make lots of jewelry pieces and so can you.

Variety of Beads for Jewelry Making

The jewelry made out of beads and other such things is always appreciable by people. Many people, I saw selling jewelry were happy selling them not because of the profit they were making but the pleasure they were receiving from the customers feedback after purchasing quality items. Beads for jewelry making have always been admired and used in versatile items. Earrings, bracelets, necklaces and even anklets are made from beads and sold in the market. Usage of beads for jewelry making is a very old trend.
Let me tell you a little about the type of beads that are commonly used in the making of jewelry. Although there is a wide range of beads collection you can choose from but here, I will make you aware of the basic five types of beads for jewelry making.
Seed Beads
Small ball shaped beads are the seed beads. You can find a huge collection of seed beads on the online stores and markets near your houses. 6.5 mm beads are the largest ones. Some of the beads are so small that they can’t be handled with fingers. For this purpose, beading needle is used in order to combine the beads together in strings. The large seeds are usually used as center pieces in the jewelry along with the small seed beads.
Pony Beads
These are usually available in 3 to 4mm of sizes. They are recognized by their huge holes and thin figure. Plastic or glass is used in their manufacturing. The beginners like children start learning the techniques from pony beads. Pony beads can be used as spacers among the other beads for jewelry making.
Regular Beads
A variety of beads are located behind the name of regular beads. They have a small hole with round shape. Wood, plastic, glass or crystal can be used to make jewelry. In jewelry pieces they are used as the main piece and might be used as fillers. The large beads are often used in making rings and earrings.
Specialty Beads
Specialty beads are used for various reasons. The crimp beads are placed at the end of the string with a stopper ahead of it. Links in items are created with the help of clasp beads. For fillers, tubular shaped ones can also be used. They mainly function as stoppers, fillers or clasps.
Charm Beads
Carved with pointed shapes, the charm beads are manufactured with amulets. These are carved and formed in required shapes. They are usually made from metal and are huge as compared to the other types. Pendants and necklaces often contain such charm beads as their charm for attraction. These are usually used for making bracelets and even anklets.

Beads for jewelry making are available in a huge variety but these main ones are casually used in making jewelry pieces. At least to my knowledge, these five are the basics names of the beads for jewelry making. You can go online and search for your own set of beads and start making jewelry and other fun things with them.

How Glass Cabochon and Cabochon Settings can make Your Day?

Do you have some fun idea to make a boring day cherished? If you don’t that which way to go then what about making a piece of jewelry like locket, bracelet, ring or earring etc.?  If you are not a skilled person at jewel crafting then you would be pleased to know that cabochon, cabochon settings and glue are enough to make your day. Let me explain how easy and pleasing activity it is.

Cabochons are of different types and my favorite are those made up of glass. Different paper images are attached opposite to the smoother surface of these glass stones to give them a different and attractive appearance instead of having a feel of a simple glass glued to cabochon settings.

You can purchase the finished glass stones with different impressions on them from the market but you can also buy the plane ones to add the image of your choice and it is also quite simple. Select an image either from a magazine, printed image, and decorative papers or even you can add your own photograph. Please, avoid the overtly glossy or thin paper because they will not give a desired impression to the glass. Now the next step is to apply a thin layer of sticking material to the rough surface of glass piece, gently hold it with your thumb and index finger (I personally believe it to be the best and feasible way of handling), place it gently upon the image and leave it undisturbed for a while. When you feel that it is considerably dry, gently press it to get rid of the extra glue and then cut the extra edges and glue with paper cutter or nail filer, without spoiling the edges of glass tile.

Ok, now the next phase is to fix the finished sphere it to the cabochon settings that is usually known as pendant tray. Procedure is not much different but be wary about the size and design of the tray and of stone that you want to set in. Once you are contented with the size of both, succeeding approach is of fixing.

Place a few drops of blameless quality glue on the surface of cabochon settings, where you have to fix the crystal. Then place the glass stone on sticky surface and gently press it until you feel that the adhesive material is too dry to move the crystal piece. Congratulations! You have successfully achieved your objective of jewelry making. Place it on a dry surface for a few hours. So, until the trinket gets ready let me share something worth knowing. Don’t shake the glue gun or bottle just before applying it on image for imprinting or when you put it on the cabochon settings. The reason behind this caution is to avoid air bubbling that might affect the strong fixation and may blur the image impression.

That is all to it. This simple project will leave you with simply gorgeous piece of art that you will wish to have with you for many years to come.

Importance of Jewelry Making Supplies

Every procedure is incomplete without some necessary tools which not only help the person to work proficiently but also increases the quality of work. A doctor cannot operate without surgical tools. Just like that, a crafter is incomplete without his kit of crafting supplies. Likewise, jewelers must have a tool kit filled with essential jewelry making supplies.

For a beginner especially those who do not have a formal training of this craft do need some guidance and help for taking their passion for work to the next level. There are a lot of extra items present in market which a beginner might misinterpret and thus spend extra money on such tools which he does not require yet.

A beginner then must have a guide book of jewelry making supplies to help him shop cautiously and purposefully. This means that before going to market, a person should know about the products and their use so that he or she can purchase the ones they need and omit the ones that they don’t.

With innovations, the variety of jewelry making supplies has been increased in market. Therefore the person must be sure of what he wants to buy and what his product or work requires. This way, a person can narrow down his search and can easily find the Jewelry Making Supplies he is looking for.

Some of the basic jewelry making supplies are cutters. There are diverse kinds of cutters that are available in market. Each type has its own purpose and use and work with different materials. Some crafters and beginners especially work with one medium in the start. This is the time when they are experimenting with things. So it’s best that the person buys only those cutters who work with the material he is using.

Another factor to be kept in mind while shopping for jewelry making supplies is the product that you are making. Some products do not require chains; rather they need clasps and holders. Therefore a person should buy what he needs. Otherwise he will be spending a lot of extra money on things that he doesn’t need now. So do not haste into deciding that these will be used in future. We never know if the material of these things will stay same for longer period of time or not. So it is best to buy when you need it.

Wires are another important component when it comes to collecting jewelry making supplies. There are different types and colors in which wires are available in market. If you are a beginner, consult with your fellow crafters and guide books to know which wire works along with what material and style. This will give you an idea on what kind of wire you should look for and thus buy only that. Beads, gems and stones are other important supplies that one needs to finish his art piece. These elements are available in a variety of materials, shapes, sizes and colors. Trial and error helps in increasing one’s knowledge but it also sweeps off a lot of money of the beginner. Therefore one should have the necessary knowledge about the items that he need before buying these supplies. This will help the beginners in saving their resources.
