Using clasps for jewelry making has been a tradition and
sometimes necessity since a very long time. In the early days, people used hook
clasps with the jewelry items like necklaces and bracelets. These clasps could
firmly hold and grip the jewelry item in place and secure them on the wrist or
neck. But the thing that troubled people or what troubled me the most was the
way these clasps were worn. It took a lot of time for me to hold on to both the
ends, stand in front of the mirror and try to wear the necklace. It was beyond frustrating.
But thank God the magnetic clasps were introduced.
Making jewelry often requires magnetic clasps to firmly
close the item. This helps in putting on and removing the jewelry pretty easily
without any effort. People who are not able to withstand any sort of exertion can
truly benefit from the jewelry pieces that have got claps with them. People who
suffer from arthritis and limited dexterity should not worry about wearing
jewelry that requires time to wear as these clasps can help them put on their
favorite jewelry in no matter of time.
What Magnetic Clasps
Can Be the Best?
Before jumping onto some decision, you should first decide
what sort of jewelry you are about to make. After deciding the jewelry item you
want to make like a bracelet, anklet or any necklace figure out what kind of magnetic
clasp you need to finish the look of the item and make be wearable. Here are a
few tips on how you can decide the type of clasp to use for your jewelry:
- If you have deiced to make the jewelry piece out of threads and knots then the cylinder clasps would stay best. I found these cylinder clasps to help hide the knots and they can be the perfect thing for any bracelet styling.
- In case the jewelry design has got some jump rings involved in it then making the use of the claw clasps is appropriate. They do not require any hassle while attachment.
- Claw clasps are the perfect match for the light weighted necklaces and they provide easy breezy closures. They can also be used in other jewelry items.
How to Use Magnetic
Clasps?
After finishing your jewelry piece, the last thing left to
do is to attach the clasp to it. To attach the clasp you need to have some
things with you. These include magnetic clasps, pliers and a beading wire or
cord. There are total five steps to help you attach the cylindrical clasps.
- Step 1
Pass the jewelry wire to the center of the clasp hole
- Step 2
Put on a smaller crimp tube on the wire
- Step 3
Using the plier, take a smaller crimp tube near the hole of
the clasp
- Step 4
When the crimp tube is placed near the hole, cut down the
excess of wire
- Step 5
Pull the wire to make sure the crimp tube is indulged into
the clasp firmly.
In this way, you can adjust the cylindrical magnetic clasps
to the jewelry piece you have made.
